Like many families in early 2020, our backyard became our refuge from the uncertainty in the world around us.  As we spent more time there, it was clear a serious DIY project was needed for us to really enjoy the space. Although it involved tearing out the old cracked fire pit, laying pavers, building a pergola, and investing in comfortable furniture; we did made the upgrades. With the existing trampoline, the backyard officially became the best room in the house - this escape symbolized the joy, closeness and hope our family found despite all the trouble going on around the world. In that sense, our backyard gave us a "bluebird day" - on repeat for weeks on end during the "shutdown."  Time in the backyard was invigorating - like having a bluebird on your shoulder.  We look at that special time as bonding us closer, in a shorter amount of time than any other.
